Fox River Water Danger!

Hey kids, every year many adults and children die needlessly because they were careless while playing in or around the water. Everyone should learn how to swim, and if they don't know how, they should wear life jackets.

One BIG danger around the Dundee area is the Fox River. All along the Fox river are several very dangerous dams. These dams are used to control the flow of the water in the river. Sometimes the water flowing over the dam is slow and basically shallow, but other times during the year the water becomes very fast and deep. When this happens the dam creates what is called a "Vertical Whirlpool" that is VERY powerful. The force of the water going over the dam can actually drown people wearing life jackets, over turn boats & rafts, and even larger objects. Never play around these dams or take a boat near them.
